Albion Station opened in January 1860 as "Albion and Darlington" and was closed in January the next year.
It reopened in March 1891, in a new location in the down direction. Gatehouse No. 22 was relocated from Mordialloc to the number 7 crossing in Albion, 1896.
The connection from the down line to Albion Siding was abolished in 1915, and by 1919, the station was relocated in the up direction to its original site. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Albion saw numerous upgrades, including the installation of a 26-lever signal box with interlocked gates on Ballarat Road in 1928, the conversion of signals to 3-position by 1929.
In 1960, the signal box and interlocking were abolished, and a panel was installed. In 1961, further changes included the relocation of the Down mainline and the slewing of the quarry siding.
Panel in station building abolished 1965, control transferred to a panel in Sunshine Signal Box.
